amp modelling devices - comparison

I want to get one of the low-budget amp modelling devices. Here in Holland I can choose between the Behringer V2, Digitech Genesis 1, and Korg Ampworks. I already know that none of these can replace a real amp, I just want to play around with a new toy. (I have a bunch of amps already). I also know that for more money I can get more serious, but I don't want to do that. Has anyone compared these three, or can anyone recommend one of them based on personal experience?

Baard...

...in Denmark, is currently using the Behringer stuff.

he posts about them over in the Amp forum regularly about his rig(s).

Baard isn't afraid to go into great detail about this stuff either, so you could reallly get some great details on the Behringer.

Toys and tools

Sorry I cant give a comparison between the devices you mention.
I use the v-amp pro. Itīs great for the money. Iīve used it live, and itīs fine through the PA.
I also have the digitech rp 2000 but the vamp pro, that is basicly a v-amp 2 with extra outputs in a rack mountable packet has better input and output optionsthan the digitech. also it has two fx loops, but you cant switch any of them on/of with midi unfortunately, a big lack imho..general amp/cab models are also better, but the effect part is pretty basic, with few adjustable parameters.
The biggest difference, was that the clean sound actually sounded nice right away, not like the digitech, that took a long time to get right.

In practical use, the V-amp is more visual, because you have the pots to look at when adjusting the parameters. This is a huge advantage, because you can see all the parameters in your sound, just like with amps and pedals. Much better than to rely on numbers and menus. Then you easily lose the direction.

It is really a toy,and itīs not the best sounds you can get. But having said that, I got some very nice surf type sound yesterday with the twin reverb amp model, and the spring reverb type reverb. It sounded almost like my twin reverb through a microphone, when you listen with headphones from the mixer.

If tweaked, it can produce some good useable clean sounds for live use. At home itīs good for the amp sounds, but e bit less in the effect department, but still, all the fx are usable, and more than enough for me. I only use compressor and echo and reverb and chorus at the most. You can have max 3 different effects mostly 2. You can not use compression echo and chorus at the same time. I use it with an outbord compressor now at home, but I gigged with sounds based on the internal compressor, and it was good enough for that.

I think it best to get the vamp 2 for home use, because it also has the posibility that you can add a auxilary signal, and jam along with thracks from the computer, or cd.With headphones.

Good luck.
