Roland JC-90... very nice
I just got myself a roland JC-90 and i must admit I am VERY impressed.... its awesome! Loud as, easy to handle and carry and very very nice sound.
I rehearsed with it (4piece rock band) and it cut trough everything nicely with the volume at level 3...Will gig with it on Saturday Just want to share it and say you dont really need an expensive tube amp for a nice giggable sound. |

BTW, have you tried the "trick" to get a really honking tone out of the JC? What you do is lower bass and treble pots to 0 or 1 and use the mids pot as a tone. Works a treat.

I have been playing my Tele through a JC-120 but recently made a trade for a JC-77
My 120 had a scratchy crackle that seemed to come from the input jack. Apparently there is a fix via re-soldering a connection, but it seemed odd to me that both inputs would elicit this annoying crackle. I mentioned it to the owner of the little music store I frequent and one of the instructors that teaches there was listening in. He said he had already fixed his JC-77 that was afflicted with the same symptoms, and that he was actively looking for a 120 as he was starting to play out more and was hoping for some more oomph. Long story short, I traded my crackling, scratchy 120 for a perfectly performing 77, dropped 30 pounds in the process, and ended up with a little beauty that fits better in the corner of the living room. I am going to try the mid-tone pot trick tonight. I do love the way this thing just sings clean and true when you need to, but is a squawky little vixen if you hop on her. ~SYF |

Agreed!
I bought a JC-90 for home use and I love it! Despite the SS-stigma, it gets a great honky tonk twang...especially on the low note lines (like BR549).

Wow, I have a JC-77 also, didn't expect to hear from too many others on the forum playing these amps.
I originally got mine as an acoustic amp for doing restaurant gigs with a classical guitar, and for that purpose it was great. I am not totally happy with it as my main amp with my tele, but I am sitting in with a band tomorrow night and will try out the mid tone knob trick!! I wonder how much of a differnce the 10 inch speakers make compared to the 12's in the JC-120?

I hope the "mid tone knob" trick works as well for you guys as it did for me, I'd be interested to know.
And if you're wondering where I got it from, check out this link http://adamlevy.com/lessons/index.htm at number 7. It was suggested by someone on this forum on another JC-120 thread.
