tweed super 5f4 kit on order!!!
Finally quit waffling and ordered the thing from Marsh last night. Opted for the lacquered cab, merc. mag. OT, and NO speakers. I wish the thing were here yesterday! It'll be my first propper build, though I've been monkeying around with old amps and fixing tube radios for some 5 years now. Not expecting much trouble, but I hope the documentation with the kit is adequate.
ANYWAY I didn't order speakers because I have a handful of 10's on hand, and will surely experiment a bit. Anyone have thoughts on whether CTS alnico 10's from a 60's Super Reverb would be a good option in the 5f4? What are your fav 10's in a tweed clone?

I tried a fair number of speakers in my 5F4. I started with Weber 10A125 (30W) and later tried Eminence Copperhead/Copperhead, Ragin Cajun/Ragin Cajun, Ragin Cajun/Copperhead, Ragin Cajun/Legend 105, Legend 105/Legend 105, and Legend 102/Legend 102. I also tried a pair of Weber Signature 10AS speakers. It all depends on what you're after: speaker break-up or not, full mids or hollow, etc.
What did I settle on? I put the chassis in a 5E7 cabinet, loaded it with a trio of Sig 10AS speakers, and haven't looked back. FWIW, I have a quad of Sig 10AS speakers waiting for me to build a 5F6-A Bassman . . . Maybe they're not the best speaker in the world . . . but for the price? Hard to beat! Bob Arbogast Quote:
