So, i'm getting closer ....
I'm getting a little closer to replacing my now deceased Ultralight Jazzmaster with a smaller tube amp.
Thanks to all for help and suggestions so far !! "No" to the Supersonic, a possible "Yes" to a new Vibrolux but a friend has offered me his DRRI and though at first i thought "no, not loud enough" i am a little bit on the fence, i know there is lots of love here for them but to me it seems just the teeniest, weeniest bit too close to running out of steam, i'm sure it could cover the vast percentage of my work but am concerned if it doesn't. So, how does this sound ?, replace the 6C6's with 6L6's pop in a SS rectifier and rebias it, would that a) be feasible and b) add anything to the headroom ?. I like the sound but i do feel i could do with just the weeniest of 'safety nets' All idea's welcome.

I don't know how noticeable that change would be. It should get you a tiny bit more power but the output transformer is usually the limiting factor on these and the couple of extra watts might not be very audible in a gig situation. I believe that the speaker impedance would also be mismatched without a change to a matching output transformer but a Fender should be able to handle the mismatch.
You would probably hear a bit of change in the tone as 6V6s sound different than 6L6s. You could email David Allen at Allenamps.com and ask him how much of a change to expect. He sells a replacement output transformer that is basically from a Vibrolux Reverb but turned sideways to mount in a DR's holes and I think they have multiple impedance taps. I would guess that he could tell you if it would bump your amp up to 30 watts or more with the change to 6L6s. |

as the proud owner of a DRRI i can vouch that it'll be Telelicious tonally....
No problem if it somehow ain't "enough"....ye can either mic it, or if ya want more acoustic output than the internal 12"er is good fer, jes' add a 2x 12" cab.... |

These guys have some good recommendations... I'm surprised Tim hasn't posted his famous SM57 mic photo yet :) Put an efficient speaker in it as fakeocaster said, then prop it up on a chair. Or as suggested by maestrovert add an extension cab, then prop it up. If that don't cut it, Tim would say "put a Shure SM57 in front of it." HAHA |

Well, it's making sense so far --- many thanks !
I'm going to have to take it to a gig methinks and give it a 'spank'. Would i be right in thinking that because it has one reverb channel it will be 'out of phase' if i try the trick of plugging chan1 into chan2 ?
