free amp!

A friend of a friend wants to give me (yes give) a Bugera 2x12 tube amp. I've heard of the brand, but don't know anything about it. I'm taking it of course but it's 120 watts. I was thinking of an attenuator to dial it down as i have a weber mini mass for a smaller amp already and it works fine.

Do any of you mod heads know of another way or would an airbrake or mass be the best option. 120 is WAY more power than i need but hey, free amp.

Isn't Bugera a label owned by Behringer? I think so.

I wonder if there's a way you can pull a couple tubes and rebias, in the way folks do this to Fender Twin Reverbs got reduce the output to manageable home levels.

If the mini-mass isn't rated to dissipate a ton of power, I would not just hook it up and hope for the best.

Unfortunately this amp brand is not popular with the modders I guess, so a lot of the homework has not yet been done.

this thing is way overpowered for the MiniMass but the Mass (i think) can handle it. That's probably the route i'll take. I'll have to buy a $220 attenuator to enjoy a free amp.

Free amps can always be internally rebuilt or harvested for parts, too.

+1

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
Pick it up, say thanks to the donor and then take it home and see what can be made out of it.

A thought that struck me when reading your posts about attenuators... Consider a 2X12/2x10 et.c. amp of say 100w, an amp that has has a spkr. out and an ext. speaker out.

Now, if a certain attenuator could hande 50 watts of power (and some extra watts for a margin at that), and given that the speakers could be divided into pairs giving the amp the right impedance. Given this, could you get by by using one attenuator for each speaker/pair of speakers?
