Music Man Amp repair in Bay Area?

I have two music man amps I've picked up and I dig them both (especially the 112 rp) but both have reverb issues and the 112 has the dead phasor (their spelling) problem.

Anybody know someone who can work on these in the greater bay area? I contacted Uncle Spot and he says he has two music mans in the same shape and has given up because he can't find the correct schemo...

I know my limitations... I can build and bias a 5e3 but trouble shooting the ss sections of a hybrid amp is just something I have no clue about...

Any suggestions appreciated and I promise not to respond with 'yeah, but' or 'I already tried that'....

You should at least take a shot at fixing them yourself. Have you checked out the schematics at the E-B and Musicman sites? The reverb circuit is pretty simple. If you can rule out the reverb tank and the pots, you could probably just replace every component in the reverb and phasor circuits for about $10 bucks. The traces on those PCBs are pretty rugged, so no worries there.

Randy, it would be a haul for you, but you could give Mojotronix a call in Fairfax. I have no idea if he can help you, but you never know....unless you've already tried him. And you could enjoy some beautiful north bay weather. Drop it off on the 5th and you could go a couple more miles north and enjoy Junior Brown at McNear's in Petaluma. Sounds fun, huh.

I have to go to socal later in the month anyway, I can take it to Paul Morte down there.... my theory is if Uncle Spot is saying the available schematics are wrong and that his mm's are going unrepaired... what's that old clint eastwood line "a man has got to know his limitations"

I may take a look... I really, really, really like the sound of the 112 rp..

Hey, getbent, I'm new here and really just registered to give you a lead on getting your MusicMan amps fixed. Through the Music Man Forums, I met a guy in Ohio, Terry Loose, who is the "world's foremost MusicMan amp repair guy". I sent him my MM chassis a while back and he fixed it right away at a very fair cost. I would at least talk to him, he's a real expert and has access to the right parts.

I may have an amp build or two I don't want/need... a GA-5 clone built into a 1x10" cab and perhaps a different one... IF (a big if) I decide to let them go, I'd rather let them go to a good home :)

Good luck on your quest. My main amp during my giging days was a 112-100-RP. That puppy RAWKED for C&W rowdy bar tunes.

JohnS, I love the amp... I picked both of them up for 200 a piece and they play fine except for the reverb on both and the phaser on the 112...

I use a tone king imperial for my band, but I may actually switch to the 112rp 100 and probably sell the 2X10 (I like it... but, I feel like a hoarder)

JC, we're trying to get down there (my niece is graduating from law school) in between about a thousand things in the schedule... it would be cool to grab a cold one in Fullerton and maybe get Dario to come too!

I'll let you know.
