Please Help???
There is a used Fender Pro Chorus amp for sale here at work for $100 that needs work. The lady selling it said it is making humming/buzzing noise??? I already have a Blues Jr. amp but would not mind moving up to a bigger one. Do you think it would be a wise move or should I stay away from this deal?? Any ideas of what the buzzing/humming issue could be???

Yeah, good point Bill, but a good friend of mine's husband is in the amp building/repairing business so I could probably get it up and running for a small amount of money. But would it be worth it in terms of having a different sound or would my Blues Jr. be good enough?

More specs might help--though I have never seen a fender tube amp with chorus. This is only imoportant as a tube amp in need of repair for $100 is probably a decent gamble. A solid state amp in the same condition is probably not. I'm not intending to debate sound quality or any such, but few folks are interested in tinkering around in a SS amp.
That said, if it has a decent speaker, it might be useful as an extension cab for your BJr...

OK, I can't read a schematic, but there doesn't appear to be an extra speaker jack on there--but if you know someone that can fix such things, I'm guessing that it might be possible to add one. If anyone can answer that question, it'll be BillM.

To marshman's point, most people would consider a move from tube to solid state to be a downgrade. Yes, you could hook up another amp to your Blues Junior, but you'd either have to install a line out jack or use a DI (direct interface) box connected to the speaker. And that "another amp" would actually have to be working, which is not the case with the amp in question.
In the real world, however, people seldom daisy-chain amplifiers. If you need more volume you get a bigger amp or you stick a microphone in front of the one you have. An aux speaker cabinet will give you a bigger sound stage, but is that what you want/need? What are you trying to achieve tonewise that the Blues Junior is not delivering? The BJr is a good amp and can be a great amp with the proper mods. Google "Blues Junior mods" and you're likely to find some informative pages, hint hint. |

Thanks so much for all the great info guys. I cant say I am missing anything from the Blues Jr. per se. I still have not learned everything that i can do with it yet in the short 5 months that I have owned it as i have been playing through a friends PA system all winter (saturday afternoon jams). I will play the 52 through the Blues Jr. and enjoy it. Thanks Giogolf. :-) I cant wait.
