tube matching - Doug's Tubes

I play through a Torres Super Texan, love the amp - but need to change it from EL34 to 6L6 to get more headroom and twang. I used a website called bestampblueprinting.com to learn a bit more about tubes and amps (the host works for Ruby tubes i think). Plenty of good info there.

Cycled through a few of the better known tube sites and I noticed that Doug's tubes does something the others don't. He matches to early, normal, and late distortion. Was it Ruby tubes or JJ that had a point system that would help in determining a power tubes distortion point?

Anyway - the other websites did not seem to offer the tubes in a point system that would help me choose the distortion point, only Doug's.

So..... anybody used Doug's matching to effect, or if another system was used was it effective?

LOL! I'd like to see a technical description of what that process is.

That's the same thing that Groove Tubes has been doing for quite some time.

I think the Tube Store also uses a rating system for power tubes so you can get the same performance in the future

And if you have adjustable bias, you can set the idle current wherever you want instead of "buying" an idle current.
