Laney LC15R

Has anyone ever tried one of these? I bought it a few years back and never really used it. Have been playing through it non-stop the past few months thoguh and it is a lovely little amp. No idea why I had left it sitting in the corner for so long. Damn loud too. I can't turn volume above 2 at home because it is loud.

It is the only tube amp I own. How does it compare with similar amps/price ranges? Would it worth changing the speaker and valves at any point. If so what would you suggest. It currently has 2 EL84 output valves and a 10" Celestion.

I use an LC-15 (non-reverb version) for 90% of what I do, even at (fairly) big gigs. It's also the amp I recorded through for the sound-clips here www.myspace.com/thewynntownmarshals, including the live Felice Bros cover ("Rockerfeller...Blues").

I modded it (very easily!) by getting the valve and speaker package Watford Valves (Google them) do for the amp. Not expensive and made amp sound noticeably better, although - as you say - even unmodded it's a very cool amp!

the LC15/LC15R have the external cabinet jack?
connecting external cab would cut of internal speaker as on vc15?

Don't know, sorry: mine's an older model and I got a tech to add a speaker output (amp only had a line-out) which allows amp's speaker AND an extension to work together (which does sound grand, you're right to want that).

Newer LC-15s already come with an extension speaker output, though, so don't know if they cancel internal speaker.

LC15 are very well regarded. The newest ones have top-cut tone control and single ext spk jack that silences internal speaker. See http://www.laney.co.uk/show_prod.php?prod=LC15-110

Not difficult to mod an ext jack but new LC15 takes 8-16ohm load with 8 internal, maybe add another 8 in series. Do check your older spec.

Laney generally fit good 'selected' valves so only change them when they wear out. Speakers make a differnce but your Tube10(?) is not totally evil, but it is 30W so the G10 Greenback is a straight swap.

Laney advised TAD valves for L5T (LC15 has similar circuit)
V1 = TAD RT030 7025/E83CC HIGHGRADE Premium Selected
V2 = TAD NN001 12AX7A/ECC83-C SINO
V3 = TAD NN003 ECC83S JJ Red Label (former Tesla)
V4 = TAD NN871 EL84-STR (-6BQ5)
