Showman amps

Hello

What is the feedback do players have concerning the Showman / Dual Showman amps?

Are there any bad points owning this type of amp ?

Which circuit is the best ?

Is this one of Fenders "better" amps that he made for guitar players ?

Regards

Paul

Showmans are LOUD

If you are looking for a clean, LOUD amplifier, the Showman is the answer. Think of it like the power section of a Twin Reverb except in a piggyback format (and no reverb) usually with a 15"JBL speaker if the cabinet is original. Great amplifier for surf music, jazz, country, or anything requiring clean tone at high volumes. A guy I know used to use a white one to play his Fender Precision bass through at gig volumes, thats how clean these babies are.

Fender Showman amp . . .

The Showman makes a good Fender sound. As for bad points, there isn't any (all Fenders Leo made are good). Compared to a Deluxe though, a Showman is heavy to carry, and you can't get an overdriven tone at lowish volumes (which is fine by me, thats why I have large and small Fender amps).

Best circuit is probably the earliest (1960 blond), but I don't think there's hardly a difference as long as it's a black-face.

I'd say it's one of the better amps ..Byrds used them on stage AND in the studio: Turn, Turn, Turn ..Eight Miles High ..Mr Spaceman, that alone speaks volumes for Showman amps.

I can't wait to get my chops on another one

I really dig the Silverface TFL5000D series and
now that the "Sparkle Drive" is on the market
it's only a matter of time. I owned two at one
time with two of the small 2X12 bottoms but
they became too much to lug around. These
daze I'll combo 'em into 1X15 Combos er,
sorta like Vibrasonic/Twin.
The best one I had was a '68 DripGuard. I was
REALLY STUPID to trade that one away,DUMB!

Dual Showman and Sparkle Drive

Ah yes...I've been playing my Tele through a super six for some years and it always delivered that tele bite on the bridge pickup....or so I thought.

Just finished a Dual Showman with 2 15" and I missed the bite. Added voodo folks Sparkle drive and it added just a bit of crunch and I'm back to the sound I like at managable volume.
