5E3 cab build with photos

I made it slightly deeper than original '50s Fender plans, with a slightly more angled baffle (and thicker baffle cleats). Birch ply with halfblind dovetails - I think Leo may have perfected pine cabs with later tweeds.

It's gotta ceramic Jensen C12N. I like the stiff midrange it has as well as it's smooth, tight bass.

Waiting on the tweed before I do a final sanding/smoothing :)

Very Nice JC. Looks like you've been pretty busy in the wood shop lately. I went with the same spkr. in my 5E3 clone. I like it a lot with this amp. Question ? Does this amp have enough volume to practice or even gig with your band w/o micing ?

At rehearsal spaces it is a touch too loud for my 3 piece - might not be loud enough for gigs though, IDK. I'd like to try a bigger space to see if it'd be loud enough for gigs.

I don't play clean though - we're a hard rock band.

Are you sure that's a 5E3 cabinet?

Looks great! If I tried making that it would look like the things people throw out when their basements flood. I just can't seem to do decent wood work.

Neither can I. This one has some slight flaws once you see it in person.

Regardless, it is still the best cab I've built so far due to the amount of practice I've been putting in! HAHA

So all I can say is... try it and practice often - I'm sure your very first attempt will still be better than my latest attempts!

HAHA!

Well, I haven't ordered the tweed yet, so perhaps something unusual would be cool... now you've got me thinking :)

You are kidding... the words "dovetail" and "joint" reveal naked ambition, and don't lie!

Looks great seriously, a proper amp!

I was taught to make lap joints in woodworking class when I was a nipper, so that's how I make 'em. Sad really, when I can draw much better stuff for other people to make.

Here's the evidence, also a Jensen- 8" ceramic 4 ohm. *Really* crappy woodworking, but it sounds lovely so I couldn't care less, and when tolexed and speaker-clothed, who'll know any better?
