Definitely a great amp that is very versatile. It'll be plenty loud enough for most gigs with the volume set no more than 4 or 5 max.
I use mine for small/medium sized gigs and it's more than adequate volume-wise. If you're doing bigger gigs then it just needs to be mic'd up. Personally, I think that even 22 watts is too much amp for most gigs these days. I would like to get something like a 12 watt Tweed Deluxe which will still be loud enough for most gigs - again for more volume it can be mic'd. |

I'm with Del on this one. I have used a '65 BFDR with a JBL speaker for many years as my primary amp, and rarely if ever wished for more power. It sounds great but in small clubs I find myself wishing for a 10 watt version!
One of the truly great designs.

Sounds like the DRRI is a good one. Never thought about a Princeton. I will try that too and then make a choice. Thought the DRRI looked like a twin and sounded like a twin but lighter. I don't have a roadie and my wife refuses to carry it.

You've already got a DRRI; I sure wouldn't ditch one if I already owned it.
If you want more clean, but a Twin is simply out due to weight, you could also get a Fender CVR or Custom Vibrolux Reverb-Amp. You have access to much more clean headroom, kinda like a Twin, but you do have hiss at idle and if you are a reverb hound, the CVR isn't a full dose of reverb unless modded. I like my CVR a lot, but there's a Twin in the future as well. Something about a Twin.

I've been using a DRRI (with a Weber California) for some time now and for small to medium size venues it is fine.
Having said that, I saw Little Feat at the Commodore in Vancouver and Tackett was using a Deluxe Reverb on that stage (miked of course).

The DRRI is a great amp. I used mine for gigging and holds it's own without micing. I think the Jensen speaker that's stock is just fine. I personally am going to swap out the GT tubes for JJ's. There has been talk about the GT tubes causing problems. I also use a sturdier footswitch for the Vib/Rev functions. I never had good luck with the ones that come with the amp.

Congratulations - now change the poweramp valves before you hit trouble. My 3 month old DRRI is now dead & awaiting a new resistor because of a valve failure.

+1 on changing out the 6V6s. If your amp came with the EH 6V6, get them the hell outta there before one blows and damages the amp. Replace with the JJ 6V6 and have no worries. I've been trying to kill the JJs in my 64 BFDR for 2 years now and so far no luck. they just keep working.
You know, the JJ 6V6 and the EH 6V6 both retail for nearly the same, within a couple bucks. It seems to me that it would be a no-brainer for warrantly reasons for FMIC to switch to the JJs. I guess they're in bed with Matthews. |

My dream rig is a 59' Tweed Bassman and a 65 Deluxe Reverb..with an A\B\Y switch ..Ive got the Bassman, so my next amp will be the DRRI..I absolutly love the cranked tone of both..but prefer the clean of the Bassman.just before breakup...with a good comp and overdrive in the chain I can push it over the edge, with the aby .and the same kind of settings on the Deluxe .I think it would give me a very large tonal palate...
