Blues Deluxe vs. Hotrod Deluxe

Please forgive me that stupid question:
despite the obvious cosmetics and more gain: what is the difference?

I like the Blues Deluxe better. More of a bright, crisper, cleaner sound.
Plus its prettier.

They're not far apart. My bandmate has a BD and I don't like it much, but it's better than the HRDs I've heard. Reverb is solid state. If you keep the tone controls reaonable and the revern lowish it sounds OK.

Interestingly plugging the preamp out into a PA works pretty good - certainly no worse than the amp itself, fairly quiet.
