Weber california 12" speaker?
Anybody ever put a Weber Calif ceramic 12" speaker in their HRD? If so, what did ya think? I e-mailed Weber and got an e-mail back from Ted suggesting this speaker for clean headroom.......
Anyone used this speaker? |

I have used it on several occasions. Great speaker. It does need break-in time though. Fresh out of the box it's a little brittle. After a couple hours of play it really opens up. You won't regret it.

Great Speaker! Especially for a loud single-speaker amp.

I can't remember why I thought it was a good idea When I sold the HRD, I swapped the Eminence back in. The Cali went into my son's Princeton 112+ where it replaced an "entry level" 12 and made a huge difference. Turned it into a serious amp. Nowadays I would buy a paper-domed one.

I have one in my DRRI. Love it!
As Billm said, it is a neutral sounding speaker that simply conveys an amp's tonal characteristic.

I put an 8ohm paper-dome ceramic California 12 in my Peavey Bravo (25W tube amp) on Ted's recommendation. Got it in hopes of more headroom, but though it sounds good with maybe a little less high end than the stock Blue Marvel, I didn't get the headroom I was hoping for. That may not be the speaker's problem though, and it does sound fine if I'm not playing loud on the low E string.
