old lp jr amp

I have an old les Paul jr. amp. The tolex(cloth?) is battered on the corners and the speaker is ripped to shreds. I was thinking about making it into a head. I see the speaker has a transformer(?) attached. Would I need to incorporate this transformer into my design?

Yes, you definitely need it. That transformer is the output transformer. The amp will not produce sound without it.

your amp is probably worth $5-600, sure you want to hack it up?

I'm with TNO. Think twice before hacking it up.

You can always replace the speaker, and battered corners are to be expect for an amp that old that's been around the block.

Can you post some photos?
