Personally, I think they have less than desirable tone. Very generic sounding to me. Lotsa other folks like 'em. If it's very cheap, it's always possible to make a few bucks on the resale and buy a TUBE amp.

I do intend to get a tube amp ,probably a small Fender, like the Vibrochamp XD or just the Champ 600 but this is just 40 quid so is cheap ,little more than an Amplug here in the UK .I just wanted to make sure they are not total duds.I may use it for Jam sessions .I do already have a Gdec.
thanks

I have one. It's for sale. It is handy for me to let other people use it around the house. It really doesn't sound that bad for a transistor.....excuse me....solid-state. Just not for me. It was a package deal with my telecaster. For $80 I'd say jump on it.

Try a Pro Junior or Blues Junior before you make up your mind. That's my advice. It's worth what it cost ya, but either is a smokin, smaller amp that just oozes tube tone and no effects to square the sine wave. Crank and spank that plank. And how could ya pass up a deal on the princeton65, an amp you can let your buddies try to blow up. That'll keep 'em off your rig, too. Good luck

For the price it's more than worth it. I have one. As somebody earlier said, it's pretty generic, but certainly usable, and you can make it sing with the right pedals. The onboard DSP effects are OK - I'm pretty fond of the 'verbs in fact - the only drawback being that you can't combine them. I gigged with it for about a year before I finally couldn't live without the tube mojo anymore and invested in a Blues Jr.

Right now, I have it set up for my slide guitar (hi-output humbucker vs. single-coils on my other guitars) and as a backup for the BJr.

I think SoundControl are selling the Grainger Valve 5 for around 80 GBP. Seems to be a clone of the Epi Valve Junior combo and could be an alternative if you want tube tone and can get by without reverb and effects.

Thomann has the Harley-Benton GA5 (also similar to the Epi) for 70 GBP or the GA15 for less than 120 GBP.

All of these will most likely sound better than the Princeton.
