Calling the Maggie Guru's

I'm thinking about buying a Magnatone 260. I have searched the web, but info seems to be limited. I have tried to join the yahoo group, but you have to be approved by the moderator, and I still have not heard back in 3 weeks.

Hopefully someone here will have some answers for me. What are the 260-A Maggies selling for? It sounds great and everything works, but has some cosmetic challenges. It has a broken, taped up handle, the tolex is ripped on all corners and is missing the back panel and 1 foot. There is a small snag in the grill cloth. The control panel is scraped up as well.

It has the original 12" Magnatone speakers. Does anyone know the Ohm value for these? I would like to use an 8 ohm attenuator that I already own.

And, is it just me, or are these unbelievable sounding amps?

Iowa: Price on these is all over the map. Use to be 4 or 5 hundred bucks all the time. Now excellent condition examples can go up to 2 grand in shops (no sense in that at all.) For private sales, may 750 to 1200, depending on condition. That's really just a guess.

Lots of alternatives. Actual maggie branded 260s can go for higher with that name. Virtually identical amps (such as my Twilighter 260 have lagged behind on price. But people are getting hip. As far as sound, correct-o. These amps are sweet. The stock speakers are 8 ohm oxfords, wired for 8 ohm total. Lots more volume and tone in there with more efficient, better speakers. Not all maggie owners agree on that one. Persist on that yahoo list. That's the number one maggie resource. And for other oddball amps too.

The 260 is an unusual, distinctive sounding amp. Sounds nothing like anything else, and that's before you even turn on that wonderful vibrato.

Thanks, Mad Dog.
Does anyone know how long it takes to get approved for the yahoo list?
