Crate V18-112 amp
I bought one of these recently as a rehearsal amp to drag around, and I'm thoroughly impressed! Has anyone else been getting in on these amps?
It's good stock, but I re-tubed it with JJ's in the back end and Groove Tubes up front first thing. I swapped out the 12AX7 in the V1 position with a 12AY7, and it's just GREAT with my Strats! Relatively clean with a little grit, and it gives up a bit more when you dig in! AND... they're cheap.

I like mine,but -
I have retubed with E-H Golds and changed the stock speaker for an Eminence Governor. I'm still not completely happy with it, and it now has an annoying buzz at certain volume settings. (Mechanical, not electrical...) I might try taming it a bit with a 12AY7 like you did. Anyone out there got advice on how to track down and eliminate a buzz from an amp? |
