Talk me down...
OK, my Vox AD30, which I used for practice and goofing around, croaked. It was a pretty good sounding amp, but well, it died.
So I'm thinking of getting a replacement. I'm kind of intrigued by a Pignose. That it'd be a pretty cool practice. But it wouldn't be very versatile and I couldn't use it for band practice. I've kind of been thinking about getting a Super Champ XD. Yes, I know. I'd love to have a old Champ, or better yet, a Princeton, but I can't justify the expense for just a practice amp and the Super Champ XD seems to be a pretty good bang-for-buck amp. Tell me why I shouldn't get one. |

Because you would be joining the ranks of the Evil Peckerhead Modelling Amp Users.
Other than that, I can't come up with a single reason. Especially now that Billm has turned his attention to them. Oh, you were already an Evil Peckerhead Modelling Amp User. Well, I guess that argument is shot. steven |

Don't get a Super Champ XD--it's way too much fun and you'll never get any work done.
As long as you're comfortable with the SCXD's limitations, such as non-tweakable effects, limited tremolo and delay speeds, it's a gas. The Fender voices are spot-on, as you would expect. Just today I wanted a 1950s sound. The Champ voice plus mid-speed tremolo up at 7 or 8, Tele on both pickups--greaser heaven. |

I should also add that you should budget a Ragin Cajun as part of the package. The stock speaker is amazing for the amount of tone, especially round bass, that it can produce for such a flimsy little thing, but the Ragin Cajun is louder and a little more in-your-face without taking anything away from the voices.

If so, is the baffle threaded with a T-nut or metal insert so that new, longer screws will go right in?

You just need to press down a bit to compress the RC's front gasket. It's thicker than the stock speaker's, and the screws just barely grab. The baffle has T-nuts, so you can use a longer screw to start the RC, then switch to the stock screws. Regular Fender screws for 3/4 inch baffles are a bit too long and poke through the front of the baffle.
