tweed, brown, black or bf/silver
what is your favorite fender amp for alround tonal pleasure?
i was very happy with a 69 bf/d super reverb , it was a loaner for 2 years but sadly went back to owner who wont part ! i could find another or am thinking something else like a tweed or brown super, vibrolux , deluxe , or pro amp. can alway get the reverb unit . I have always got along with 10 in speakers. I currently have a 65 ri twin and its great clean but i cringe whenever i have to drive it. then theres always victoria and clark tweed repros , ? i want to stay within $1500 us. :? so much for the repros then ! |

You don't really say what you like to play, how loud you need to be, or how much clean headroom you like, but for $1500 a decent player BFVR will probably cover the most tonal territory and styles of playing IMHO. Either that or get a SFVR and a tweed 5E3 clone for about the same money....

Keep looking for a Super Reverb. You can still find early SFSR's [non-master vol] for $650-950.I have my normal channel modded to a hot- rodded Bassman circuit and use a Morley ABY for switching. This gives me the clean tone on the vibrato channel and the fat O/D on the normal channel. If you need more O/D put a good stomp box out front. There is an amp tech in my area that can mod a SR to give you Marshall type gain and it sounds good. The SR maintained will go up in value and is one of the desirable models for collectors.I also would recommend a Vibrolux Reverb amp with the normal channel mod.

Never played a brownface but want to hear a 63 vibrolux that is for sale. If it can render some
tone on the lines of an old sf super reverb I may just bite. The lack of reverb is not a big deal , I rarely have the reverb more than 2.5 . I find the clean and drive of a SR to suit my needs. Just curious about the Browns before I go ahead and get another old super reverb. |

I'll have some Brownies too.
'63 brownface Deluxe sounds wonderful, & though some will say it's not true brownie tone, '63 Vibroverb reissue is pretty cool, too. Blackface / Silverface I dig for clean tones & twang, but have never really cared for the way they break up or play with dirtboxes as much as with the Brownies. Tweeds I don't have a lot of experience with, but I'm sick with lust for a Victoria Double Deluxe or a Tone King Meteor (purports to contain separate tweed & blackface preamps).

If you don't bite..
would you mind telling me where it is and how much? I'm shopping around this christmas myself. I've also seen a '63 pro-amp that I believe has been modded to to a 2x10" configuration. Everything I've seen on these says they only came with a 15" speaker.
