Orange Tiny Terror
I've been curious about these for a while, they look very cool, and the price is certainly tempting.
I was thinking about getting one and an Orange cabinet to use as a gigging amp. Any experiences? Good? Bad? How loud is it? What sort of tones does it produce? (I won't be able to try before I buy) Cheers! |

I have one, with the matching 1*12 cab (with a V30). I like it very much, and use it as my main (practice and gigging) amp. It's surprisingly loud (and crunchy) with the volume and gain at about 3 o' clock. However, it has almost no clean headroom.

I tried one and though it was cool it was a one trick poney that I could never use as my only amp for practice or gigging. As AngelStrummer states above there isn't enough clean headroom. But I would still like to have one as the one trick they do - they do very well.

And, for the record, it wasn't me who wrote thast it doesn't have enough clean headroom...
In fact, whilst I haven't admittedly gigged it yet, I remain convinced that for small club gigs it's sufficient clea n-wise. Indeed, I use the clean tone because I rely on stompboxes - for me the TT works a treat. Nice and honest Class A tube tone that works well with pedals. If the stage is big, you can always mic it and send to monitor and PA.

I've only played a TT for a short spell in a store, but I think it would be great to pair one up with my Carmen Ghia head and run a delay pedal in stereo with the CG getting the main and the TT getting the repeats.
Of course I have no money to do this and no place to play it if I did, but it's fun to think about.

That said, you're right when you say it's used as a marketing term. And since I'm proselitising, I will use marketing terms.

1.5K cathode resistors in the first two gain stages, dual-ganged pots for pre-amp and master volume. Could be picking up some more gain in the PI. Maybe a medium gain PI tube would increase the useable headroom?

These are decent little amps! The half power switch bags the headroom a fair chunk, but in full power mode you have a bit more dynamic range to play with. If you dial back the volume on the guitar a touch, of course that helps as well. I think these things excel predominantly in full power mode crunching out. I wish every studio should had one of these (and a Dr. Z Carmen Ghia) at the dough they're going for...

Here are a couple of great Tiny Terror demos:
TT & Strat- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvAB6a0h9bA TT & LP- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1Oj-...eature=related Another thing to consider, if you buy a TT & 1x12 Orange cab brand new, you're getting close to the price of a nice, used Rocker 30 combo. It's a great gigging amp, and is much more versatile, even just playing at home. |

Over at the music-electronics-forum there is a good thread on these amps. They claim it is a clone of the old AC15.
They also suggest to bias the amp a little colder. The amp is actually biased at over 15W per tube static. It's insane. I swapped the 100 ohm cathode resistor for a 180 ohm, made no difference in the sound but made the tubes a lot happier. Note: In the schematic I have seen, the cathode resistor is 120 ohms. tiny terror thread I have my eye on one of these too!

I thought it sounded good, but I wasn't floored. One-trick pony I would say and there just wasn't enough "terror" in it for me. My 18 watt Heatseeker head sounds better.

However, Orange did clone the "class A" aspect of the AC15. |

The TT's are awesome. My only gripe is that you can't run two 8ohm cabs so if your unsure what ohm age your cabinets are you will have to open them up and multi meter them. As far as tone goes its a rock beast. The 7 watts setting with the gain up and the volume down you have some amazing clipping with out destroying your ears. As far as volume goes it carries its weight in a rehearsal setting and its so easy to carry one small head (over the shoulder bag) and one 2x12 cab:
