BF DR power tranny in a Princeton Rev?

Anyone ever put a Deluxe Reverb power transformer into a Princeton Reverb?

I have a Princeton Reverb with the standard 120 VAC US power transformer. I use an external step-down transformer to convert European 240 V to 120 V.

I recently acquired a Mojo Blackface Deluxe Reverb power transformer with a 240 V input. I'm wondering whether it's worth the trouble to install this one in my Princeton.

I would also replace the cap can with one of those 525 V models from AES and get a set of JJ 6V6s because I hear they can take the voltage pretty well.

Any problems with this installation?

If you remove the Delixe bottom transformer cover it will still be a little too large for the hole in the Princeton. Making the hole larger and relocating the mounting holes will seriously devalue your amp. You could mount the transformer vertically and use the existing holes.

That being said, it would be much better to get a muli input PT made for a princeton.

weber sells this:

Quote:
W022772EU $40.00 6 to 15 Power Transformer for Tweed Champ, Champ, Vibro Champ, Princeton, Princeton Reverb. 120,220, 240 inputs, 600V and 660V HV taps.
I put one in my Silverface PR. With no changes to bias or anything, B+ voltage came up 5 volts more than the stock tranny through a stepdown. That was sagging to 408 volts when I got it, as the bias was pulling 45ma ea. from the tubes (!) Luckily they are JJs and apart from a very warm transformer have taken to ill from it.

I rebiased to a better setting, and I get 445 volts on the plates @ 16ma per tube. It has 3 amp on the 5v and 4 amps on the 6.3 v heater circuit, and 100ma on the main HT supply (up from 65ma) which will allow you to run 6L6s if you like.

It uses the same lamination size, so bolted straight in. It is about 30% taller than the stocker and runs much cooler.

Allen Amplification makes a Deluxe Reverb style transformer with the same footprint as a Princeton Reverb power transformer (it's just longer). It works great and can support 6L6s. See link (TP25). I've used them in probably 7 or 8 amps. They work great.
