Ragin' Cajun in 1965 Princeton - quick review
Greetings,
Just sharing my initial impressions of the new Eminence Ragin' Cajun 10" speaker I installed in my 1965 Fender Princeton.
The amp itself is in amazing shape. The previous owner never even played out with it, and as such has the original RCA tubes, caps, pots, transformers, wiring, everything all in great shape. Had an amp tech verify all of this when I took it in to have a grounded cord installed for safety. The original Oxford 10L5 sounded good at low/mid volumes, but farty and ice-picky when I run the amp on 8 or 9 with a drummer, bass player and lap steeler. I wanted something smoother, with more efficiency and integrity.
After much research, I went with the RC. So far, definitely louder than the Oxford. Firmer, fuller bass that's tighter sounding and not blatty or boomy at all. Mids are wide and warm, giving it a rich and meaty tone. And the highs are smoother, allowing me to run my treble at 3 or 4 instead of 0 with my stock Telecaster. Creamy, yet punchy when I goose the amp with a Tube Screamer or Bad Monkey for more grit. I only have a few hours on it, so we'll see where we're at after it's really broken in.
Bottom line: this speaker makes this amp much smoother, richer and plenty loud enough for all of my gigging situations. The beautiful, harmonic Fender tube cleans just pour from this new speaker, truly bringing the super-dynamic, touch sensitive nature of the amp to fuller potential.
For those searching for full-sounding 10" speaker for your Princeton (especially with a Tele), I recommend it.
Regards,
