HUMM in my boogie ... HELP!
I have a mesa boogie rectoverb 50 combo, and I run some effects using a AC>DC adapter and a boss splitter that gives you about five power jacks.
A few times one of the unused power jacks has touched the outside of a signal jack on (fx unit) by accident. (So +12vdc applied to the signal earth) This would cause the fx to momentarily turn off. My problem is now I experience a fairly loud hum through my amp. Ive tried 2 guitars (1 humbucker and 1 strat with 2 pickups on) and the hum is much louder than usual. Segnificantly louder through hi gain channel which I guess could just be the extra gain. My question is could this have damaged tubes or the amplifier components? I guess i will try switching out tubes one by one and see if theres a difference. plugged direct to amp and no change so not the fx. tried different leads. I only have very basic electronics understanding so any help or advice would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Grounding your power supply should not effect the amp in any way. First think I'd reccomend is getting known good preamp tube and switch into each position and see if at any position the hum goes away. If not, I'd try another set of power tubes as if one drifts the amp will hum. If not tubes it's tech time.
