Oddly good sound from a Fishman Loudbox

Just a fun side note.

Anyone who follows my posts knows that I use a BFDR almost all the time with my Fenders. Love that thing, it is what keeps me from buying other amps.

But I also do a lot of acoustic work and over the years I have owned and experimented with many setups. Recently I decided to get another acoustic amp for some work I had coming up, and got a Fishman Loudbox Performer.

It is a really nice, hi-fi amp with 2 channels and the usual controls, including notch filters and digital reverb. Especially nice is the assortment of DI options (pre/post, etc.) and the tri-amplified compliment of small speakers (2-6.5" woofers, mid and tweeter). Very well built piece and it sounds just great with my Martin HD-28 with a Baggs pickup system - very warm and articulate.

I usually use acoustic amps as a stage aid, and not as my sole source of sound. They work best when they are used in conjunction with the PA system and monitors.

This last week I was rehearsing with my odd little acoustic quartet (guitar, cello, bass, ukulele!) and decided to try the Telecaster into the Fishman for giggles. Ha!

But it worked. It worked really well. I was so surprised! I worked so well that I used it on our local radio appearance the next day, and at the concert that night. I used the Telecaster on about 1/3 of the tunes, the rest on the Martin. We all loved it.

The Fishman gave the Tele a very hi-fi sound that was huge and warm and tight as could be on the bottom. Not a trace of shrillness, string balance is perfect. It is not the usual thing I look for in electric guitar, but is such a wonderful tone that I can't help but think of other uses for it.

I've never had an acoustic amp yield results like that before, and so I thought I would just pass it along.
