Admiral Tubes: Ever heard of them

I got a NOS 5Y3 today from www.thetubestore.com.

It's an Admiral brand, made in the USA. I've never heard of these. Is anybody familiar with these? Are they high quality?

that would be my guess ... if not RCA, another NOS brand. anything they put in an Admiral TV is probably a pretty good tube.

re-branding was VERY common back in the day - remember: ALL tubes that
were US-made were manufactured by either GE, RCA or Sylvania and were
then branded as the purchaser specified (in your case, Admiral)

prob'ly an old TV or radio tube..

Wait a second... ever hear of Tung Sol or Raytheon? I'm sure some others will pop up in my head shortly.

Jerry, you're going back a little further with those but yeah you're right.
I stand corrected.

MOST of the American-made tubes were made by the big three I mentioned.

I've seen tubes labeled Tung-Sol that were re-branded RCAs, though!

Tungsol certainly made tubes (and are very highly regarded) as did Raytheon, Bendex, Westinghouse and others.
