amp tech in NYC area?

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for amp techs in the New York City area. Specifically, is there someone who would look at something like a vintage fender tweed amp and really really know what's going on inside it.

I'm impressed be the level of detail some of you go into on these forums, but my own knowledge of amp electronics is too limited to want to tackle something myself. I'd like to find someone who has this kind of knowledge and care and passion etc.

Not NYC, but close. Dave Hirsch at Dave's Sound in whippany NJ (just this side of morristown) really knows his stuff. He's worked on everything of mine, tweed, BF, ampeg, sewell, magnatone, silvertone ... don't think there was anything I brought him he hasn't seen before ('cept the Sewell). I can recommend Dave.

I don't claim to be a tech but I been playing, photographing and nosing around inside guitar amps since the 60s (been calling them VINTAGE since the 80s) I know most of the common stuff that goes wrong, what most of them should sound like when working right, believe in not changing ANYTHING unless necessary and I know when to turn it over to a proper tech if necessary. I also know some good techs in Manhattan. Feel free to contact me via E-mail. pedenphoto@mac.com J.Peden

Call the guys over at the New York Guitar and Bass Boutique. It's in Hell's Kitchen.

If you're near Long Island, go to New York Music and Repair on 455 Route 110 in Melville (Huntington area) and ask for Richie. The phone number is 631-385-1039. Mention that I recommended you (Frank Doris). He has been doing my work and work for a lot of my friends for something like 15 years and is superb and really knows his stuff.
