Help! My SFTR sounds thin and nasty.
It has a tonal quality that I associate with a bad solid state amp. You can hear it playing clean, but overdrive (an old OD 1) really brings it out. It has Peavey Special 130 distortion quality. My Yamaha digital amp actually sounds warmer. Something has changed over the last two weekends. Where do I start. Could it be tubes? Caps? any combination? I have bypassed all effects and played two different guitars to be sure it is the amp. As near as I can tell, It has to be the amp.
Thanks in advance. -Scott

tubes, then check filter caps
If you have a good tech available, have him check it out, could be tubes, but my guess would be that it needs new filter caps, especially if you have never had them changed out.
