Any problems w/ 65 RI Deluxe Reverb....

I went to demo a Hot Rod Deluxe Texas Red..wasn't totally impressed and felt it was really lacking something....

But went ahead and fired up the 65 DRRI and really liked it...

Any major problems or things I might of missed..I played it for about an hour today and was very impressed....Played it mostly clean and it sounded pretty darn good....actually it was better than that !!! But what about dirty stuff....Such as Rich Robinson...Keef...Angus/Malcolm....Neil Young... Does it like pedals? I am really about to pull the trigger, but I always kinda get excited and maybe there are some things I may be forgetting that I am not taken into account.

Opinions....Is it really just a one trick pony....I am thinking a overdrive would song great and even a Fuzz/distortion would sound descent. I have P-90s'...Strat...Tele...Humbuckers...Do they all sound fairly descent?

I want one.

Always felt that (ignoring the current GA5 craze) it was the most popular amp here at TDPRI--if we had an offical amp, the Deluxe Reverb, in any phase, would be it.

Princeton Reverbs coming in a close second these days...

Like any amp+guitar+player combo some pedals will sound better then others. Having said that, I have found the DRRI to be quite OD friendly.

Fender says the HR Deluxe is the biggest seller.

The DRRI is the most praised.

Check it out.

I'm right!

Best of luck.

Murph.

Yep-Murph you are right....I played them both....I really wasn't to knocked out by the HRD..it I played the Texas Red version and a White Tolex version....

I was a little disappointed by both and got ready to pack up and go but decided that while I was there to try DRRI....Pretty sweet to say the least and is probbally my new amp....I just sold my fabulous Bassman head and 2x12..but I need a combo.

Love my DRRI!!

Bought it used, and had to replace the reverb tank, 30 or so bucks later and I'm surfy as all get-out!

The only thing I've done to alter it from stock is to change tubes. I've got some JJ ecc83's and some NOS GE 12at7's int he preamp slots and JJ's for Power Tubes (although a set of RCA Blackplates just showed up for me to try tomorrow)

And yes, it handles pedals quite well.

It's a great amp that I have been looking for tone-wise for a long time.

i rented a deluxe reverb a few months ago and for some reason the footswitch didn't work right. so you might want to check that before you leave the store. otherwise, it was a great amp.

A re-tube and expert bias adjustment can make the DRRI sound even better. There are a lot of reports how "cold" the bias is set at the factory. I can attest to that.

My bias is set pretty hot: humbuckers start to drive my amp in a really good way, even without pedals with the volume on 4. I use a Bad Monkey to be able to get overdrive at slightly lower volumes (as well as have a clean sound when I turn it off). Otherwise, my volume and tone knobs are my overdrive settings.

Thanks for the replies....Few more questions and I will pull the trigger on something...

What about compareing a Blues Deluxe(not Hot Rod Deluxe) to the Deluxe Reverb....Are the cleans anywhere close to being as nice sounding as per the Deluxe reverb? IS the reverb close to being as good?
