Best sound cabinet style for 5e3 build?
I am in the process of building a Mission 5e3 kit and have not started on the cabinet yet. I am not too concerned with a lookalike Tweed Deluxe. I prefer to build to get the best sound out of the 5E3 cabinet. Any suggestions to best how to build a good cab for 5e3? I noticed Lil Dawg does not stick to exact design and I figured I necessarily won't if some changes would improve sound. Any input is appreciated.

I can't say this with any authority, but my new Li'l Dawg D-Lux is in a 1" deeper cabinet than the standard Tweed Deluxe (mine's from http://www.betterbuiltworkshops.com/). Jim at Li'l Dawg says that it makes a big difference in the bass response of the D-Lux and I took his advice on this point.

You might think about the narrow-panel Tremoluxe-sized cabinet. I'll probably build one soon for my 5E3, just to check out the difference.

I'd love one in a wide panel Pro cab (1x15)

I was thinking an inch deeper or slight increase in size might be good. When I went to Lowes, they did not have any decent 1x10s, but had real sweet 1x12 which I bought. So I have the material to go bigger. Thanks for the input.

I got a chance to hear an A/B with my Li'l Dawg D-Lux today and a Tweed Deluxe clone that a local amp builder/tech built. His circuit was tweaked for less bass response to begin with, but my D-Lux had much better bass response without farting out or sounding flabby. In short, if you like good bass response the deep cabinet is a great idea.
I couldn't say which I preferred as they both sounded great, but I'm very happy with the "Deluxe Style Deep" cabinet that I got from Better Built. Now if I could just play like the amp tech... Cassady |
