Pre-dsp princeton chorus amps are one of my favorite fender ss amps and are reasonably inexpensive. the clean channel is amazing and it has one the most spacious choruses in the onboard fx business.
i used the distortion channel as a clean lead channel by diming the volume and using the gain as a volume control. this allowed me to use the presence control for more sparkle

Oh yes it definitely is! Now does anyone know how to get pretzel spittle out of a keyboard?

My first amp was a JC-120 which I eventually sold back to the guy I bought it from because I could not get happy with the sound. It just didn't seem to have any life to it. Of course, I didn't have a clue back in those days.

I now have a Line 6 Spider II (stop laughing at me) which I bought because it was cheap and I wanted something that was safe to throw around a bit. I was ready to sell it after the first couple months, but now I have learned how to get an acceptable variety of decent sounds out of it, and it serves its purpose very well. My point is that I am paying attention to the recommendations in this thread. I would like to try some decent quality solid state amps and find out how they sound.

I have a Cube 60 and an '80s Peavey Stereo Chorus 400. Both of them have a different, but beautiful sound with my Tele.

some of the 80's peaveys had good tone the reknown or classic were pretty decent

I just picked up a used Roland Jazz Chorus 55, and it sounds great. Not tinny at all, it has a very warm, full sound, even at low volumes. In my band situation, it has to compete with much larger tube amps (Traynor Custom Valve and Fender Super Reverb), and it does just fine. The other guys (both on Strats) love the way my Tele cuts through, while staying clean and sparkly. It's great for rhythm playing.

I really like a tele through the peavey transtube series....bandits, specials, ect. I did have a fender deluxe 112+ that I used for a number of years, but honestly....it was a little too thin sounding in the mix with the band for my liking.

I also like the roland cubes, but have not played the cube 60 yet....so I do not know how well it will keep up.

I have a Deluxe 112+ too, which used to be my main working amp but has been "retired" now. I also have among other amps a Cube 60 and take my word for it, it'll keep up just fine and possibly cut through the mix better as well, if you set the EQ right.

I stepped-up the power a bit from my Princeton Chorus to an Ultimate Chorus. I like the Ultimate, as well as the Stage Series
with Teles. I really don't use tube amps too much anymore. THe digital FX have spoiled me. And although you don't really get the
"warmth" of a Twin or Deville with Solid State, you can compensate
with EQ and get nice, balanced tone with SS. That being said, I've not liked too many non-Fender Solid State amps that I've tried. I think Fender has engineered their solid state curcuits to match well with their guitars. The Crates, Marshalls, Randalls, etc., leave me cold.
