New Peavey Windsor Studio Combo...Any Comments or Reviews...???

I am planning on buying a Peavey Windsor Studio Combo in the next 2 months...
I was wondering if anyone on this forum has any info, or comments on this new "Flexible" (Power Tube Choices) Guitar Combo...???
I can`t wait to personally try this amp out...!!!
The day I got my American Vintage `52 Telecaster RI (2001),I played it on & off for almost 8 hours...!!!
So I will likely give this amp a simular workout, to get to know this amp, and to "Partially", "Break-In" the Speaker...
I always find that New Speakers sound a bit "Tight" and after a few months they really "Relax" and sound much more "Open" & "Smooth"...IMHO...
Thanks for any Info or comments...!!!

I had one but sent it back...Really sterile sounding....Tubes hard to get to without trimming attenuator bracket...and some maybe hard to even get in there with moddifing for fittment...Wasn't horriable on its own but next to my Bassman.....it sounded very brittle...Brite and begged for the speaker to be changed out.I did run it through my 2x12 and it ws slightly better...It has absolutely no low end whats so ever......I wanted so bad to like it but I just could not bond with it.You might have better results....

My local dealer just got a Windsor Studio in and I decided to plug in give it a try.

This must have been a "made on Monday or Friday amp". the grill cloth was skewed, the screws that hold the nameplate to the speaker baffle were crooked and half backed out, and the tolex was coming loose around the control panel.

The worst part was when i turned it on, it had a very noticeable buzz. as you turned up either the master or the pre it got louder. I plugged in both a sc and a hb. It wasn't the guitar, but the hum quieted somwhat when you touched the strings so I'm guessing it was a grounding issue.

It seemed to sound ?OK?, but it had so many issues that I really didn't give it much time. I was really disappointed. I had been really interested based on this and other discussions.

Just to clarify, I have 2 tube amps at home, a Valve Jr and a Zinky. While both have a slight buzz, neither are anywhere near what I heard in the Windsor.

I bought one the same time as Southern Ill and gave it a work out for two weeks and then returned it. Like the idea of a 20 Watt amp with Brit voicing and power attenuator but the thing has zero low end with the stock tubes and speaker. Has no bass whatsoever and the clean channel always sounds like it's on the verge of breaking up.

I returned mine about one week before Southern Ill returned his. We both made a bunch of posts on this site regarding our daily experiences. If you search the forum for Peavey Windsor Studio you should find our comments.

Retrodaddy is correct....Give it shot if you want..No bottom end what so ever...Ran it through my SuperSonic 2x12 cab and Zilch..Nada...not even.

I did run EL34 and 6L6s' and the 6L6s'did somewhat sound cleaner and warmer.

This amp seems to be geared toward a tube guru who owns a bunch of different octal style tubes...thing is it is impossible to get the power tube out without breaking or taking the attenuator bracket off....Just a really dumb design...You would have to mod. the bracket.

When I tried it in a packed store with lots of other guitars around it....it sounded descent...it made the acoustics vibrate and I mistook this for "low end rumble"....Ordered one up from MF...Sent it back. I was very disapointed!!

Take a look at the Fender Superchamp XD if you want a really versatile, great sounding 20 Watt tube amp for around $250 new. I bought one shortly after I returned the Windsor Studio and I'm really glad I did. The Fender SCXD has many great on board effects like vibrato, tremelo and chorus and it also has 16 different and very useful amp voicings including metal, overdrive, british voicings, vintage fender voicings great tone and great BOTTOM END.

The Fender SCXD completely blows away the Peavey Windsor Studio. It's in a completely different class. Loud enough for performing at small venues like you might do with a Blues Junior in a small grab and go combo package.

A++++++++++ Highly recommend.
