I have a '67 Amepg Reverberocket.

I've never played a Jet but from what I understand they are similar to tweed deluxe but I believe they are brighter and have more prominent mids.

Those new one look nice (haven't played one yet) but if you look around you can find a real vintage Jet for less $

Ampeg Jet J-20

I have one and I love it.

I did swap out the tubes for JJ's -- and I also took out the stock alnico speaker. It sounded fantastic, but after several long sessions playing really loudly in conjunction with an Xotic AC Boost -- it seemed to develop a problem. It got really harsh raspy and icky sounding.

So I swapped it for a Warehouse Guitar Speaker v-30 clone -- and it sounds awesome again.

No problem with stock speaker or tubes yet

I played a J-20 for about 10 minutes at a music store, using a Relic rosewood neck Strat. It sounded terrific, warm, rich and clear, with a superb tremolo. So good that I was tempted to buy it, and thought about it for the rest of the day. I was highly impressed.

I got the same impression, although it didn't have much of a 5E3 vibe for me. The one I played seemed much more refined.

I'll repeat: the tremolo is to die for.

My love for 50's and 60's Ampegs has me interested in this amp. I emailed Gregg Hopkins (the guy who wrote the Ampeg coffee table book). He's an authority on all Ampegs since they began, and has an awesome collection of their bass and guitar amps. He told me that the J-20 Jet is based on the Brown Deluxe circuit.

I just got the new Ampeg Jet J-20 and played it for three hours I could not stop playing it with my 52ri thin skin with Don Mare Pickups
Its based on a Fender Brown Era Deluxe but it slightly redesigned so it wont fart out like a Tweed Deluxe will when its played at maximum volume and boy did the design teem at Ampeg voiced this amp just right the speaker sounds very simulare to a Alnico Celestion Blue but is made by P Audio Speakers
This is the first Tweed type Amp I've ever played that sounds this good at maximum volume no farting even with the neck pickup and it has a very nice chime sound probably the speaker that that comes stock with the amp

If someone can please post the Photo for me
Hears some Photos and a article of the Ampeg Jet J-20

I have a '69 Reverbojet and it's second only to the 1966 Reverberocket 2 I sold a few weeks ago.(major sellers remorse)
I don't think I'll ever find that sound again...bummer.

I don't care if it's point-to-point, I don't want to know if it sounds heavenly.
The new ampeg J-20 costs 1 900 dollars in Sweden.

man...Ive been trying to find a sound clip of this amp ever since it was announced. The vid on the Ampeg site is bizzare to me! The guy has the guitar plugged in and the amp on, goes through 10 minutes of explaination of the amp....and never plays a note!

aarg! Anybody have a clip? None of the stores near me will stock one.

Based on my experience with old Ampegs (I own two from the 1950's) and the glowing reviews here, plus the specs and simplicity of this amp (not to mention the great price), I'm actually seriously considering buying one of these without trying it first. If I like it as much as I think I will, I may sell some other stuff to justify it. It doesn't surprise me that these are flying under the radar because all Ampeg guitar amps have generally been underappreciated.

I just bought a J-20 Jet and I must say, it has potential. I will probably upgrade the speaker and tubes as suggested by some, but the basic sound seems to be very good, clear and as you said, surprisingly loud. I'm wondering if you had an issue like I'm having, where the amps hums VERY loudly. Sounds like some kind of grounding thing. It's not my single coil pickups either, because none of my other amps are this noisy. Since it's a simple circuit, I'm thinking my tech can look at it and fix it, but just wondering if you had this issue. I feel like it has the potential to be a really, really nice amp, but will need a couple tweaks first.

Yeah, I agree. What was the point of the video? Anybody can read. I kept waiting for the guy to start playing thru the amp and he never did?

Soundclips, anyone?

If you buy one, please let us know. I'm considering it, too. Also, it would be nice to hear that it loud enough to be gigworthy without being mic'ed.

I have read that it is extremely sensitive to any interference in the signal chain, so it was suggested to use quality, shielded cables, a good power source and even a noise gate in front of the guitar.

If you get a handle on this issue, please post. I'd love to hear that there's a low cost solution to this issue. It would be a crime to charge $850 for an amp that can't be used for recording!

Thanks.

My tech checked it out and did his routine maintenance on it and the hum is gone even when the amp is turned all the way up. So it's fine now and basically neither of us know what was causing it, since he didn't have to do anything special to get it to stop. Could have even been the fact that he may have changed the positions of one or more tubes. He did confirm that it's a decently built amp. I can't wait to get it back from him because it is indeed very nice sounding. I may or may not swap out the speaker. The one that's stock seems to sound good, but I always assume (correctly or not) that a Weber or Celestion will sound better.

I'll let you know, although it'll be a little while before I try it in that setting. Also, I've recently decided I'm going to bring that amp and one other amp (maybe an AC15) to run in tandem. Two amps together just kills. I bet two of these Jets (or this one and one of my 1950's Jets) would sound killer together (and give me enough volume for just about any situation).
