Silver Creek T-160 Pics

Here are some pictures of the Silver Creek T-160 I bought recently. I'm really enjoying this guitar. It played pretty well before a setup and plays great after one. It sounds VERY good with phosphor bronze strings on it.

If you're thinking about an acoustic in the sub-$500 range or even the sub-$1000 range, these are well worth checking out.

There's a volute at the base of the headstock! It just gets better.

Thanks for posting the shot of the back of the head. I didn't expect a volute....I just wanted to see the tuners.

Very nice!

It really is a pretty good copy of a pre-War Martin 000-18, including the internal construction and the volute at the back of the headstock.

It's quite impressive for $250.

Nope, the scale is really 24.9" (or just a hair under 25" by my measurements) and yes, it comes with a case if you order it from Musician's Friend. If you order from Music123, you can get the guitar cheaper (I paid about $190 for mine), but you don't get a case.

Tried to order one from MF, they wouldn't give me a case, right now, don't need a guitar and this guitar looks like a MF special that will disappear soon, like the T-170. Not to say, they are probably great guitars. How's the fretwork

I almost bought this guitar but decided to go with the Seagull Entourage Mini Jumbo. There just weren't enough reviews for me to make a solid decision. How is the tone of this guitar? Does it need a setup out of the box or fine as is?

Thanks

I just went to MF and pulled up the dread and the orchestra Silvercreek. there's a big star on the page that says free gift. When you add the guitar to the shopping cart, it comes up as free gift: vintage guitar case. So it's still w/case.

The tone is very good. It's pretty evenly balanced from string to string and sounds like a 000 guitar should. It's not a Martin, but it does play one on TV...

The setup was pretty good out of the box, not great, but pretty good. Mine definitely benefited from a pro setup, but it was OK without it. The fretwork on mine was good out of the box--I considered having a fret dress when I had a setup done and left it up to the tech and he concluded that it didn't need one.

Could you show more of the neck, it lookstoo thick for me, also am not crazy about the frets in the pic, too small and thin

Cassidy, I just ordered my T-160 from MF. I just went and bought a guitar, because I was looking for an auditorium/000 model for some acoustic blues playing(I have an Ibanez Acoustic/Electric but it has no boom at all). I bought one and took it home and anything above the slightest pluck on the big E string and it was like a baby's rattle. I got it for 350 and pretty much as soon as I got home I happened across the T-160 just by pure coincidence..I saw it was solid wood and it looked just like I wanted it to, but I was skeptical because of the price. I looked for info, and all your info really helped. I can't wait to get it, I'll be sure to let y'all know how it goes.

It is a pretty beefy neck--it's fairly thick, pretty flat (I think that I saw a reference to a 15" radius someplace) and is wide, but I think that these are features and not problems.

I think that there are width specs in the original review I did of the guitar here: http://www.tdpri.com/forum/acoustic-...28long%29.html

The frets are small, but so are the frets on most of the acoustic guitars that I'm familiar with.

I'll see if I can take some pictures this weekend, but I really need to get some practice in--I've got a song I'm working on for the guitar class that I'm taking that has 37 changes in 16 bars and it's killing me... If I don't have time to take any pictures, I'll see if I can measure the depth of the neck and post it in this thread.

Frets on my Alvarez are pretty fat, also I like thin necks like Taylors, not beefy 1 3/4 necks, if It had a thinner neck, I would be interested
Jim
PS-Thanks

Cassady:

I went on 123 and they've jacked the price up to 300 (old supply and demand at work I'm guess) and MF, though their site says they are in-stock...once I placed my order I got an email saying they are indeed backordered. I saw a post by you saying that they were backordereded until March when you were going to buy yours...do you remember when in March? I've got some humidifiers from them that are backordered until 3/11 so I'm hoping its the same time. Thanks.

Jay Jay,

If I were you, I'd call MF and ask them. They were supposedly back ordered when I tried to buy mine from them, but they were really only being moved to a different part of the warehouse.

I'll expect a review if you get one .

Cassaday,

You just don't stop with the good tips! Called today, luckily they're westies and don't get off work til 8. Fellow said they were in stock, but there were backorders not processed yet so that the 'system' still is operating in backorder mode...should clear up 'early next week' I am hoping that means Monday! I really can't wait to get a hold of this guitar.

Any advice on the setup?

I hate MF and 123 for that (same people) I don't have a computer at home andI wanted to get an amp. I wrote down the catalog numbers for 3 different amps I wanted, When I called them that night, all 3 amps were on backorder and the guy talked me into something I didn't want. A few hours later, I tried to cancel the order or change it and they said , it's already processed in the warehouse. Their warehouse is in Indiana, Where you call is Utah, they could still call the warehouse, I stopped using them 6 monthes ago, but got this 20% off coupon and thought that I would get something

Mine needed a bit of work on the nut and the action lowered on the bass strings. It wasn't bad at all out of the box, but it's terrific now and very easy to play.

If I were you, I'd just take it to a good tech and see what they recommend.

The price on the T-160 is still 249, original price was 299, they have sold out of T-170s, when these are gone, they are gone

Ok I've gotten to the bottom of this 'backorder' 'in stock' confusion (I think). The guitar itself is IN stock. The problem is that the free case IS NOT. The guitars are sittting around IN STOCK waiting for cases that AREN'T. I called this morning and the woman who answered the phone, and was major helpful, said that she replaced it with a case that was 'exactly the same' and it should ship out sometime today or tomorrow. Now why when I called the first time, this couldn't have been done and I could be jamming! So now that it is all settled and done...I just have to wait and hope that this 'exactly the same case' is exactly the same.

Ok just as suspected the 'same case' is a dreadnaught case. So now I have to call and correct this...
