Guess I'll be the first to say that my fav is the good ol' D-28. I happen to own a '77 Sigma DR9- which is a Martin D-28 constructed in Japan. Beautiful 3 piece Rosewood back. Cheapish MIJ tuners have been replaced w/ Grovers and it has a bone nut. Desperately in need of a bone saddle and a good set-up now. Never even been fret dressed in 30+ years!

I'll list the ones that I have in my order of preferance (best one on top).
1. OOO 16 SGT - slot head, has Waverlies & ebony fretboard...it's a cannon 2. OM 16 GT - My go-to recording acoustic....both 16's have 1 3/4" nuts (fingerstyle) 3. D-15 - Still smells like fresh mahagony after 5 years. Woody & Boomy 4. D12X1 - My 12 string. Fantastic $550 12 string; plays like butter 5. OOOCXE - Black cutaway X Box with a Fishman Sonicore 4. Great stage beater; it's a poor man's Rain Song 6. LXM - My travel guitar...has gone on 5 scuba trips in Mexico. Bulletproof mini. I want an HD-28. I would love a 28 some day but I want the HD. Lighter top bracing. They sound fantastic from day one.

I really like my '93 D16 H. A modest sleeper in the Martin realm. (Anyone else out there have one and care to comment?) I'd love a 50's 00018 or a nice early D18. Love dim Marty's

I know that it's not a very high end Martin, but my 000-15 is by far the best sounding Martin I've ever played. I worked at a Martin dealer for a while, and literally played hundreds of very expensive Martins over the years. Nothing ever sounded as sweet as that 000-15. It's an amazing fingerstyle blues instrument.
I did like the neck on the Clapton model a lot. |

I'm in love with the mahogany martins. No offence to you guys with the "non-traditional" martins, but I've never understood them. It's like they're Martins for people who don't want a martin. But I guess that means more business for ol' CF, which means more money for him to build the guitars I like.
Here's a couple of mine with the tele's. '63 D-18 and '03 OM-18V. Oh ya, the shaded top '32 OM-18 on the wall right now ain't bad either

I sold a bunch of my gear last year and bought a new OM-35 from Elderly. It's the best guitar I have ever owned.
beautiful 3 piece rosewood back. Solid spruce top. Gorgeous and I love the sound.

Between my newer D-15 and '78 D-41, the 41 is my favorite but the 15 gets more playing time.
I like the Auditorium style a lot, great for sound and comfort. I'm fairly traditional, I suppose, and would vote for either the 000-28 or 000-18. The HD-28V is also another wonderful instrument. |

I love my 1987 HD28. I've had it for almost 8 years now, and I still love it every time I take it out of the case. It's the perfect bluegrass guitar, and I love it for fingerpicking and for strumming as well. I may want another acoustic at some point, but I don't think I'll ever actually need another acoustic.

I have a 000-15 too, and I really like it! It´s not the prettiest Martin but it sure has a look and sound of its´own and that´s what counts I guess...

I have two favourite Martins - the D28 and the D41. One has the classic simplicity and elegance with superb, honest sound, the other has looks, glitter, panache - and it sounds every bit as good as it looks.
As playing guitars they would make a fine pair. As investments they'd give pleasure as well. For now I'm more than content with My Larrivee D10 and Maton Lyrebird, and an old Takamine F400 12-string from the 1970s...perfectly yellowed around the edges and with a distinctive sound all its own. The Martin D28 and D41. Just doesn't get any better than that.

My Martin...
I've got a Standard Series D-28... Really the old faithfull of the Martin line... I'm into playing Bluegrass and old school Country strumming, so the D-28 covers the acoustic bases for me... One of these days I'd like to get ahold of an old D-18 to compliment the Rosewood with a Hog... I like the way the top on this one has aged to orange...

I've tried a few Martin 00, 000/OM, and D series acoustics over the years, but my favorite remains my 00-16DBM, all mahogany deep body. It falls somewhere between a Martin Spruce-top and a small-body Gibson in tone, and the deep body enhances the low end and projection.

I have several Martins (sorry, no pictures). Although I haven't played many models beyond the ones I own, my favorite is the HD-28V. Its a 2005. It takes playing to a whole other level. Balanced tone, sound projections, ease of playing, tone for days. Its also my most expensive Martin. I guess you get what you pay for.

Ye Ole D28, circa 1973
This is my favorite Martin that I have. Of course it is the ONLY Martin that I have, but it is a nice one!
The 70's were not very well respected in Martin circles probably for good reason, but after 33 years of age this workingman unit sounds great. I do owe it several apologies for my care or lack thereof. I always say "if this guitar could talk...it would swear...at ME!". Fishman under the saddle and sweat all over it! Fret

I own two Martin dreadnoughts. A D25 K2 with an all koa body from the first half of the eighties (one of 512 made) - and a D28 made in -75.
The D28 is my favourite, and with 31 years under the hood it sounds wonderful. It is in bad need of a neck reset now though, but all the same, my no 1 acoustic. |
