What´s the best accoustic guitar setup for live use.
Going through the (Big) pa, bass , keyboard and drums on the sides.Monitor in front.
What guitar is the best and which Pup system ? I Use a yamaha apx 97 limited edition that sounds pretty good, (best i´ve heard up to now) little feedback problems, and a split pezo/condenser mic system onboard, that sounds pretty realistic. I just wonder what is the best. All things considered. Baard |

I know what you mean !
Baard- I have lost count of the types of inboard, outboard, across soundhole, under saddle, systems I have used with my 1971 Martin D18,some poor, not bad, quite good does the job;I'm sure you know what I mean ?.
Then about 2 years back,at our local store ,there was a new model Martin ;that had recently arrived into stock, a DC16-GTE(dreadnought,style16,cutaway,gloss top) complete with factory fitted with Fishman Prefix stereo on board blender amplification system. It tested out really good, through store Amps, and I was able to get a good deal,so it has been ever since,my Gig Acoustic, into a Behringer-DI, then into PA, no problems with feedback, with notch ,frequency and phase switch controls, and I am very pleased with the results. Regards Ernie. |

Yes that is the one--
Baard,
Yes !,start saving ,my price was Aud $2995=US $4750,and Geir has told me that similar pricing is in Norway also, and I traded in for Aud $1400 a nice Music Man Axis Sport with the P90 Pick-ups, that I had no use for,and we had a number of good paying Gigs booked in, so I purchased, and I am very pleased that I did :D Take Care, Ernie. |

I'll let you know up front I'm not a "reproduce the acoustic sound exactly" type person, in other words I'm not super picky. For me I'm after a good acoustic sound, not the exact sound of my acoustic. And I play the guitar HARD, not James Taylor fingerpicking.
So FWIW, I use a Seymour Duncan Woody XL (you can adjust the poles) into a Boss AD-3. The AD-3 has a balanced TRS line out, and you can make it a mic line out with a simple TRS 1/4inch to mic adapter. The chorus and reverb are nice sounding and it has a feedback supression pedal that works. It also has a acoustic amp simulator that makes a guitar amp sound like an acoustic amp for practice. I've been playing live through various PAs for about two years with it and am very happy. Cheers Matt

My rig......
I use a Tacoma EM9 w/LR BAGGS onboard Electronics.
Tech21 Acoustic DI Boss CE-20 Chorus Ensemble Peavey Ecoustic 1-12 amp Various PA equipment What I do is mic the Peavey amp, this adds a lot of Depth to the sound.. You'll find many ways to amplify an Acoustic guitar, you'll just have to find the method you like. I play Blues so I need a ton of Bass and Depth and an amp with a 12 inch speaker.

B-Band
I'm sold on the B-Band core system, made in Finland. I have one (with soundhole mic) in my Gibson 6-string and one in my Taylor 12-string. I play through a SWR California Blonde acoustic amp - a great amp for acoustic instruments and bass.
While I've found that I can't use the mic in a band situation (feedback), even when playing at higher volumes, what comes out of my amp sounds like my acoustic guitars, unplugged, only louder. None of the awful piezo pickup sound. I highly recommend both the B-Band system and the SWR California Blonde. |

Sunrise!
It's counter-intuitive that a magnetic pickup could sound so acoustic, but after trying various piezo and piezo-mic combos and never getting the gain I needed to cut through the mix (even in a trio) I went for the Sunrise and have never looked back. Originally I wired it in stereo with a piezo through a Rane AP-13 preamp, but the piezo added nothing, so now its the Sunrise into the preamp and into the board. I will never use anything else.

I like mine...
My main live rig is my '89 Washburn D-61SW w/fishman natural matrix I, plugged into my Rolls "Red Square" active DI/Exciter, plugged into whatever PA is in the room. Getting alot of compliments since I started using this rig about 4 months ago.

Taylor's
I went on the acoustic tone quest a few years ago. I tried dozens and dozens of Martins, Ovations, Guilds, Seagulls, Larivees, Gibsons, etc. Taylor guitars won hands down for me. I got a 614ce which has the Fishman Blender system with a piezo and built-in microphone. This thing sounds simply amazing acoustically and amplified. Recently I got a chance to play a Taylor with their brand new electronic system and it might even be a tad better. All of the Guitar Centers I run across that have the older models with the Fishman system are blowing them out for quite a bit less than they used to go for.
