Great yard sale score........ "Ten Bucks"

Last weekend my wife and I were doing our usual Saturday morning "Yard Sale Route" and we stopped at one which had a very dirty acoustic with only three strings and bridge pins and a broken nut... I looked at it and put it back in the case and walked around a bit. When we were leaving my wife asked the lady "How much is that guitar?" and she said "Ten Dollars".... I thought that for only ten bucks I could just hang it on the wall or something. I took all the strings (3 of 'em) and got out my guitar polish and to my surprise the thing was beautiful with a nice "aged" finish. I tightened up the tuners and put a new set of bridgepins, a bone nut and some new strings and then straightened out the neck, tuned 'er up and was really surprised. The thing has a great full tone and projects wonderfully. It's a Yamaha FG-340 II. The tag inside says it was made in Taiwan, Republic of China... Has anyone here ever had one of these? This is a great guitar and I'm going to keep it as my "go to" acoustic when I don't need to be "plugged in"...... It has binding on the body, neck and headstock with a solid top and all.. Here's some shots of it...............JH in Va.

Total score!

My first good guitar was a mid-70s FG-160 made in Taiwan, and it was a sweet-sounding guitar (unfortunately I had neck problems with it after several years, and it eventually was sold). They made very good guitars in that factory.

I almost went to a garage sale last weekend. I guess one of these days I'm gonna have to get off my backside and have a look around for myself. Nice score

Yamaha acoustic guitars are absolutely AMAZING for the price when not bought for $10 at a yard sale ;). My go to acoustic is a yamaha and when I bought it, I compared it to guitars like taylors... yes the taylors are excellent guitars, but for what I wanted, the yamaha was perfect and also sounded great, almost as good as the taylor that was almost 800 euros more!

That's an incredibly looking guitar and at an unbelievable price. Nice score.

Dude, you scored! My sister had a Yamaha for years that I did not like because the strings were way too close together for my tastes at the nut. Maybe it was designed for children or something. This one doesn't look to have that problem.

Yamaha always makes amazing instruments that are extremely competitive at any price point. Correction, everything they make is extremely competitive. Clarinets, saxophones, pianos, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, outboard motors, street motorcycles, off road motorcycles, etc. If it has the name Yamaha on it it's pretty much guaranteed to be about the best quality you can buy for the $$. Another reason why I'm tempted by the Yamaha THR line of bedroom/recording amps. I've never gone wrong with anything by Yamaha, ever.

Well you beat my $25 Epiphone FT-130 find over the weekend. Congrats looks like we both ended up with keepers.

That is so awesome. I am a huge fan of Yamaha acoustics, they are the best bang for the buck IMO, and almost always sound and play great.

I have a Yamaha FG350w I bought used in 1985, wouldn't trade it for anything, great guitars. Are Yamaha not well known in the States? No-one here would walk past that guitar, even if it did only have 3 strings.
