Taylor 414CE Vs Larrivee L 05E
I have an opportunity to buy a brand new 414 CE with case for $1100.00 . I just sold a Larrivee L 05E that I rarely used. I didn't lose a dime on the Larrivee but I am wondering if the Taylor will hold it's value as well. Any opinions ?

Thanks, the question is do the Taylors hold their value as well as the Larrivee. I have been following ebay and my initial reaction is that it appears larrivee holds it's value quite. Although it did take me quite a while to sell mine.

Are you buying it as an investment or as something you want to play and possibly trade up in a few years? If the latter, its a good deal.
It will probably stay above what you are paying for quite a while. Is it going to be worth a large sum in 20 years? I don't think so because there are so many of them including mine. No one knows if Ovangol is going to become the next Brazillian Rosewood but probably not. From an investment point, Taylor series are better than the production models. The other point is they are so exactingly similar that none are going to stand out. If I can get yours for $20 less than the next guys, I'd probably buy it on price rather than say a 2 year age difference.

Since you've got the latest generation of onboard electronics (since 2010) and the NT neck joint, it should still be worth something even when it gets old, since you can easily re-shim the neck rather than a neck-reset down the line. To meet the price point, and I'm not suggesting it's an inexpensie guitar, they used a different choice of woods but still have all the technical features and construction methods of their flagship models (with the exception perhaps of the CV forward-shifted bracing in the 800 series).
Of course, this sounds like a deal you should jump on, but did you ever figure out why you didn't find yourself playing the Larrivee much? was it the basic body size/style? nut width? scale length? tonewoods? mojo? Basically I think the choice of a new guitar is a very complicated, personal thing that only you and your therapist can figure out.
