Guild F-50R

Folks: Just picked up a used Guild F-50 R at GC for $599. I think I got a great great guitar. It needs some minor work, like the binding on the neck is missing an inch on each side. But this guitar plays great. Anyone else own an F-50? Any info that might be interesting?

Used? How used (pre-owned)? Guild used to call these
F-50 back in the 80's but to me they are JF-65's &
then FMIC returned to calling them F-50's.Whew!
Anyway, there's something about a classic Guild jumbo.
Great guitar!

I bought my first Guild acoustic in 1965 and until 4 years ago I always owned at least one. Neither the old F50R nor the new F50R were JF 65s. The JF65 was a maple guitar with an arched laminated back made at the end of the Guild era (as an independent company). The F50R is a solid rosewood flat back guitar. The original F50 was a maple guitar and came out in the late 50's, then in about 1965 Guild brought out the F50R Navarre in rosewood (Brazilian of course). One of my brothers still has his 1968 F50R Navarre that he bought new. It is huge, very light for its size and very loud with excellent well balanced tone. The later JF versions (JF65 laminated maple back and JF55 solid flatback rosewood) were much heavier and are not as tonaly complex s the 1960's and 1970's guitars. I have played two of the new F50R's since Fender took over the company and two of the new D55's. I think they are much superior to the pre-Fender 80's and 90's Guilds. In fact I would consider buying one of the new F50R's and I never considered buying any of the JF series.

Love my old Guild, picked mine up in SLC about 1980 it was a bit shopworn, scratches and a couple dings but oh my can she sing. I may be prejudiced but I turned down a straight across trade for a nice G***** J45. No contest.
