Dean Markley Sweet Spot??
Hi all,
So does anyone here have any practical experience with the Dean Markley Sweet Spot? I just bought one from Fleebay on a whim. Harmony Central has some positive reviews of the pickup system. I like the idea of no battery, just a transducer and a jack. I'm putting it in my old Sigma DMB acoustic. Everyone teases me about the guitar, they call it my "Johnny Cash" guitar cause it's black...but I bought it 10-15 years ago and it's been a great acoustic. Now I'm gonna drill a couple of holes in it so I can play it at open mike jams!

Well, I just finished the install lastnight. I guess most of you own guitars that already have electronics built in, but I'm old school, and own several actual acoustics...sans electronics.
But I have been needing/wanting an acoustic/electric for awhile now. So upon finding this "Sweet Spot" I was intrigued. Very minimalistic in it's design, just a under bridge transducer a jack and a piece of wire. Sounds very natural, easy to install and a great stealthy addition to any old school acoustic. My 20 year old Sigma is sounding pretty awesome through the amp and the P.A. now.

Next, you want an L.R. Baggs ParaAcoustic D.I. box. I got one on eBay for about $65, I think.
I know, you are pretty traditional, etc, but this D.I. box will give you: pre-amplificationIn time you would wonder how you could do without it. I'm not suggesting this as if spending money is a requirement of being a musician, but it would make your current setup at least twice as good as it is - for cheap. And, give you more control over it. The effects jack is an opportunity to apply some compression and/or even reverb to your guitar. Somebody probably has one you can borrow and try out. Greg |

I did check out the Sweet Spot after getting tired of under-saddle transducers. Did a "Pick-up-the World" pup (mounted under soundboard of my '52 J-45) instead and it has been wonderful w. the Baggs. Much stage time w. it + recording...with the Baggs. But my son & I may be the only two people in the world w. "PUTW" pups in our flattops. They are known more for pups for about every acoustic instrument ever invented in the past several thousand years than for their guitar pups. Back to the Baggs DI: it'll do you well. |
