I have the nylon version. It's not completely silent, but that's not why I bought it. I got it because it is easier to travel with. I like that you can plug your headphones directly into it. It can be powered by a battery or an included AC adapter. Or you can play it unplugged; it does produce some sound. You can also plug a MP3 player directly into its input to play along. It also has an onboard reverb, which can be noisy so I don't really use it. No onboard tuner. Some people complain about the body being uncomfortable, but this hasn't been an issue for me. It sounds good to me, but I tried recording with it once and it had a lot of noise. There is a guy on YouTube that uses it a lot...just search for "Satie Gymnopedie guitar" and he will come up.
