What are your thought's, on the Carvin AC175?
Look's cool. And I'm thinking about going and trying one out.
Anyone have experience with em? I'm figuring, they are only good amplified: at 1 3/8" (or is it 2 3/8" ?), your not gonna get much of a projection out of it. But I'm primarily lookin for an acoustic to plug in (either amp, or direct to PA), and have at least a decent-good plugged in tone, for when we want a more acoustic set/song. Main thing I'm lookin for is "feel" since I handle all of the electric guitar duties in the P&W band, I figure what would be best for me, is an acoustic with a bit of an electric feel/vibe too it. Plus I gotta admit, it is very cool looking with a matching Koa top!

Hey Praise,
I live near the factory. The 175 is much like an electric. No sound unplugged. The sound plugged in is pretty much determined by your equipment on the amplification end of things. In general, it is a very clean acoustic sound. By that I mean you play the note, you get the note. There are no overtones such as you get from a good acoustic guitar like a dreadnaught or OM. For stage use that is a good thing. There is no feedback either. Or at least very little opportunity to have any. The guitar, plays like an electric. Action is great, and you have access to 24 frets. Build quality is supierior to anything I have seen recently. You might want to check out the other 2 A/E's they have. On has a more full size body though still thin like the 175 and the other has a hollow body and is similiar to some of the Washburns that were made a few years back, although the Carvins are of far higher quality. Dont know if you know of him, but Steve Travuto , a session musician here in L.A. plays the 175. Works great for him. Craig Chaqico of Jeferson Starship plays the Carvins, both the 175 and the 275 on his CD's. You cant go wrong if your looking for a stage A/E guitar. Just remember, NO sound acoustically, these are made to be plugged in. |
