Acoustic or acoustic electric???

What do you guys prefer for live and studio work. A good acoustic mic'ed or an good acousitc/electric?

I don't think there'll be much argument that mic'ing is the way to go in the studio, unless something unusual is desired. For live, it's a matter of logistics really... carefully chosen mics with good placement will be warmer & sweeter sounding than, say, piezos... mic'ing can work for a coffee house gig where you're sitting down... at my acoustic gigs, I stand up, & enjoy having the freedom to move around, so mic'ing is out of the realm of practicality...

As for the guitar itself, one option is to sorta meet in the middle, which is what I did. I bought a Larrivee D-03 acoustic & installed a Fishman Prefix in it. To me, it always seemed weird to cut a huge chunk out of the side of an acoustic guitar to accomodate a panel for volume, tone shaping, & other bells & whistles... probably not the sort of thing you hear when amplified, but apparent in a strictly acoustic sense. Downside of the route I chose is of course that you don't have those options quickly available, as well as quick battery access... upside being that you still have, for the most part, an acoustic guitar.
