Subway Guitars "Fatdawg" acoustic
My good friend who does a solo singer/ songwriter act needed an acoustic he could travel with and go "busking" when the mood hit. Not wanting to risk weather damage to his pristine 84 Taylor 810, he asked my advice on a nice acoustic for around $500. I told him to check out Fatdawg at Subway Guitars as they offer a D-28 copy for $250.00. Well, he called, ordered and received it.
What a nice guitar for the price. While it does not have the volume or complex tone of his Taylor or my 82 Larrivee, it is an outstanding guitar in it's own right. Solid top. Nice Rosewood back and sides. Plastic nut and compensated saddle (which he will have replaced with bone ) round out the basics.
I'm the king of cheap gutiars, but this thing is a great deal for the coin. I found another buddy a pretty nice solid top acoustic for $110 from Music Yo a few years ago. It was a great deal also, but no where near the quality, playability or tone of The Fatdawg.
I put a set of medium guage strings on and the tone really opened up. Tuned to DADGAD or open D, it really found it's own voice.
If your looking for a nice sounding and playing inexpensive acoustic, check em out. My buddy left three messages on my work phone this morning thanking me and stating how much he loves this guitar. He's going to order the mahogany model today! I'll let ya know how that one turns out.
