Sweet Spots
Sometimes when you play your guitar in different places you find a place that makes you and your guitar sound better, because of its acoustics.
I work in schools. In a previous job there were skylights over the side hallways, about 12 feet square. I'd go in occasionally about 4 or 5 in the morning, stand under the skylight outside my room, and treat the empty building to a great-sounding concert! The sound bounced in there so I felt like I was inside my guitar or something. . .know what I mean? Sometimes I'd go down to the next hallway, where there was a wood floor over the downstairs cafeteria, and that one really sounded rich. I changed schools a few years ago, so now my early morning "sweet spots" are in the stairwells at the ends of the halls. One has a landing next to a big window, and its acoustics are almost as good as the skylight spot from the earlier school; the school choir gathers there sometimes before school starts. I don't know much about acoustics, but it seems that what these spots have in common is bare surfaces of various hardness, and irregular shapes. Do you have any sweet spots? I'd like to hear about them.
