Decent Smaller Acoustic for $300 - $500? Suggestions Welcome!
I am looking for something a bit smaller than my full sized acoustic ( I tore up my elbow and the dreadnought is killing my arm ). Acoustic / electric is fine. I am not particularly brand concious, so fire away!

Simon and Patrick...Wild Cherry is very nice..smaller body..nice neck..great sound. S&P is part of the Godin/ Seagull family.
Our lead singer had a Big Baby Taylor..she bought a Baby for her daughter...I really liked playing the Baby.

those gretsch americana ones, as goofy as they may look, actually sound pretty decent.
the epiphone el-00 is also a nice little parlor guitar, solid top, mahogany back and sides, all for $300 |

They are not fancy but nicely built - if you can find one, I'd urge you to check them out.

i'm with the folks suggesting something from lasido (godin, art and lutherie, simon & pat, seagull, et. al...)
I think you can find a new or lightly used seagull "grand" in that price range, they're excellent guitars, solid tops, lam. cherry back and sides, great for fingerpicking, or really just about anything... i'm kinda dreadnaught-ed out, anyway...the word needs more acoustic players checking out some other options...so i say more power to you.

Solid spruce top, rosewood back and sides, $299 online. Hard to beat, IMO. Hope it helps, CS :-)

Taylor Big Baby Link - $449. Big Babies are 15/16 scale which doesn't sound much smaller but they really are smaller. They come with a good embroidered bag and they are easy to add to a full car trunk or to fly with. They don't feel tiny. I have one as a travel/camping guitar and it's very nice to hold and play. My daughter is 13 and it's easy for her to play. I paid $300 minty/used on ebay. Sounds very nice....easy to play. Nice smaller comfy couch noodling guitar.
Seagull Folk Link - smaller guitar with a wide nut $379 Seagull Grand Parlor Guitar - Link - $379

I think the Ami blows the Taylor and the Martin away, hands down.
They never give me the feeling that they're built to a price, like the others. I just saw one on my local Craigslist...$150, I think. But I don't need a third one!!! |
