A long shot!

OK, so I'm in my neighborhood AppleBees Restaurant (Ithink it's predominately a west coast chain), and they seat me and the wife in a section I've never been at. Well, up there, hanging on the wall is a Gibson Humingbird acoustic! Looks like a cherry sunburst, kluson type tuners, rusty strings, and it looks like no damage to the sides and front (there may be a couple of screws throught the back holding it too the wall), other than normal wear (slight pickgaurd scratches by the sound hole, fret wear, etc)! I'm goin Ga-Ga!

The wife tells me to stop drooling, and not to embarrass her (too late)! I call the Manager over (a guy I've known since he started their as a waiter), and I say, "When I was a teenager back in the 70's, I had a guitar just like that one. Would it be possible to trade me for a Yamaha acoustic that I have?" He say's, "Well, were gonna be remodeling in about 6 months, and heck, your a long time, good customer, I'll just give it too you!" Every ounce of my energy went into keeping from bouncing off all the walls in that place, screaming WOOO-HOOOO! I Scored! Calmly and very graciously, I said thank you, while my wife was kicking me under the table.

So what do you all think, did I score, or am I halucinating? I figure that a couple or few screw holes through the back couldnt be too expensive to repair (or am I wrong?).

Who cares about a couple of screw holes in the back!!! You got yourself a GIBSON HUMMINGBIRD!! Even if it needs a bit of work, you'll have yourself a great guitar....and an even greater story! Congratulations. I'm very happy for you. Please let us know how it turns out when you get it. Right on PC!! I'm very excited for you.

I am a doubting thomas

I hope it turns out great, but I suspect when you get it down, you will see why it was screwed to the wall. Hope that I am wrong.

I have some of the same thoughts too, but, the General Manager told me, that they have buyers that go too lots of second hand stores, and GoodWill-Salvation Army stores, cause they can get there artsy decor real cheap there. So, I am hopin that is the case, and it was just a donation to the local Salvation Army, by a relative that didnt know the value of what they were donating (hey, I can dream cant I?).

So, I'll be keepin my fingers crossed, and as soon as I get it down off the wall, I'll give you all a report.

Oh, and from what I could see (through the sound hole), the inside of the back is intact, and no obvious cracks to any of the visible braces or the back panel itself.

WOW!

Just a quick look over at e-bay could get ye real excited about this one. I sure hope it's for real. You are, of course, required to follow up and let us know. Best of luck. What a great story.

I dont think it's ordering so much: It's more a case of the "buyers" scrounging thru second hand stores, and swap meet's. I dont think they are experts in what is junk, or what is a vintage item. There whole criteria, is what will fit the decorum, and it's gotta be cheap!

I remember being at a Marie Calenders, and I saw a very, very, old scientific scale (for weight's and measures). I cant recal the brand name of the scale, but a friend of mine who collects that sorta stuff, went GA-GA, and started drooling all over the place! He talked the manager into selling it too him for $200.00 bucks. He sold it about a month later, for $8,000.00, and griped that it sold for too little! Proves the old axium: One man's junk, is another man's treasure!
