Just ordered a Supercharger kit from Graphtech

Just ordered a Supercharger kit from Graphtech for my 150 dollar Yamaha. This is a good PLAYING little guitar (FG-401).

I am hoping the Supercharger will bring it life tone wise.

thinking about it.....

I've beem thinking about this when I do a partial restoration on my 70's Aria acoustic. Does this come with a saddle, nut and pins? Tell me what you think. I think for 30ish bucks, couldn't hurt.

Ok

I should get it sometime Saturday. I am hoping to install it sometime Sunday.

It includes the Tusq saddle, Tusq pins, sandpaper (2 grades) to shave the saddle down, and a pick.

The total package is cheaper than buyinig individually. I am very confident about the results I will get with the saddle. I have "heard" outstanding things about the tone improvements that can be gained by just switching out to "top quality" pins. I am hoping that BOTH upgrades will revitalize my guitar significantly.

I will let you know by Monday.

Got it installed

The supercharger kit did not come in until yesterday. I got it installed last night. The new strings were not cooperating so I did not have a good chance evaluate the new bridge and pins to see if I could hear a "supercharged" difference. I am not going to be hostile if the difference is only moderate. I mean this is a 150 dollar guitar, so I don't expect the supercharger to turn it into a Martin or Gibson.

The strings should break in today, and I will give you an evaluation this weekend.

Ok, I left the set up a little higher than I might normally, but I feared shaving too much off the bridge. I will shave somemore on the next string change.

Overall, the tone is sweeter, and fuller. Sweeter highs, fuller bass, a little prettier mids. Yes, it added a better tone, and more "umph" out of what it had.

It made a substandard guitar sound par with most. That is certainly a step up.

Overall, I would do it again. And if I get another acoustic guitar with a non-Tusq bridge, I would replace it soon...including the pins. I found the pins worked better as well. Less slipping when replacing the strings. They seated better.

I was all wrong

I was all wrong. Now that I have lower the new TUSQ saddle down to almost perfection, the guitar just shines.

I get some very good acoustic sounds out of the 129 dollar special now.

I would say that if you have a cheap acoustic that plays nice but sounds subpar, get a TUSQ supercharger kit. It is WELL work it.
