Whats the Word on Tacoma's

Nephew is seriously thinking about one since his old lead player said he likes them. So whats the word on them are they decent or are the Seagulls, Takimines better?

jh45gun,

I traded a strat I had for a Tacoma Chief a couple of months ago and as I sit here trying to finish some writing I'm doing for work... it and my larrivee Pete Anderson are right next to me...

I love the chief man. Super, super light... plays like an electric... tough little sucker... it has the weird soundhole (which I now totally dig) and when you are just playing alone the sound just floats into your ear rather than bouncing off the far wall...

I have the little papoose too (the min travel guitar) and it is righteous too....

I'd imagine that if anyone were to complain about them it might be that they don't have a bunch of bottom... but, to me they are super resonant and for the money (used especially) I just think they are a really really good guitar...

plugged in... they sound very very good stock... I've played a couple of other ones and they seem very consistent... this is basically the animal of which I speak...

If he sees one that he likes I'd get it. FMIC dropped Tacoma's entire line back in April. FWIW, my nephew got a 3/4 scale Olympia by Tacoma for taking lessons and it is pretty nice for a Chinese laminate acoustic.

I have two Tacomas, a koa Little Jumbo and a PK30 Parlour (or Parlor as Americans say). They are both very fine, nice players, good sounding and excellent value for money. If you can get one, buy it (but not Olympias).

Maybe I've just had bad luck with them, but every Tacoma I ever played (or heard, as one of our worship leaders has one and I have to "fix it in the mix") had intonation problems. Having said that, I'll admit that I'm more anal than most when it comes to intonation issues. My Taylor 814 CE has pretty much fixed that though!

What do you mean by FMIC who or what is that? and do you mean the company is out of business?

OK I figured it out that you mean Fender bought them out and now dropped them? So is the line out of business?

From the House of Musical Traditions website: (House of Musical Traditions ) :

On April 2, 2009 we received news that Fender (the parent company of Tacoma) is dropping Tacoma guitars entirely from its product line. Word had been that they were moving Tacoma production into the Connecticut Guild factory, but this is no longer the case. We have not received word as to whether Tacomas will be manufactured under any other company -- it appears they are being completely phased out.

Found this doing a search and found a Tacoma forum

I just called my nephew and talked to him and
my nephew is aware that Tacoma was Fender bought and is going out of business and that is why he is buying one he feels he can get a Sweet Deal.

I used to have a DM9 wide-neck and loved it.

But being the idiot that I am, I sold it.
