Should've done this forty years ago!

I bought a Martin D-28. It's my sixth acoustic and the first one I've been crazy about. It's actually making me sound good! (And they said it couldn't be done.)

It's a '71. (Paid way more than I ever expected to for a guitar, $2k, and there's no way I can justify it, even though I've been seeing '71s going for more, and it's in great, great shape. It's cold comfort, but it did cost less than a new one.)

Too much fun!

Now excuse me while I go make up for lost time....

Very good. I got my first 30 years after I first wanted one. I'll warn you that it lead to more.

You better join the TDPRI official Martin owners and lovers club, and of course the UMGF.

Where's the photos?

Enjoy it in good health.

Congrats to you on your D28! I love my 175th anniversary issue. Definitely check out the UMGF. Lots of great folks there too.

I GET A CLUB? I'm there!

Photos? It looks exactly like every other D-28!

This is actually my second Martin. I never really bonded with the first one. Maybe a D-35? Can't even remember. This one and I hit it off instantly. Been working on a monstro, no-holds-barred version of "Patriot Game."

And - good health it is, then. Thanks!

Looks like it's not even ready for its first tire rotation. As Martin Mull so aptly put it: "Am I in heaven, or am I in Miami?"

Hey Charlie!

We ought to get together again, whats it been, four years since the amp class?

Just got a new Guild D55, we could put them through their paces...well, as well as I am able to anyway. What was that Martin your friend brought over the night before the class, a D-16 perhaps? THAT was a nice guitar.

Take care, and stay safe my friend!

Can't go wrong with a standard D-28. As Johnny Cash said, "I just feel safe with a Martin."

You never need to justify spending a ridiculous amount of money on a Martin - its OK!

71 is the year they changed (half way through) from Brazilian Rosewood to the back and sides they have now. Wonder which one you got. If you got a good deal you probably did not get the Brazilian one....I know, I bought mine in Cleveland in 1971 and just missed. Of course I bought it new, with case for $350.00. That was a lot back then.

1969 is the changeover year.

There were a few standard BW guitars made after that, but 1969 is the year.

Cheers

Congratulations Charlie! I take it it's tone reflects the close to 40 years of playing ... May we see a pic of it please?

Some things just get better with age - and some of us too.

My D-28 was made in 1975. Sounds better and better, but needs a neck reset.

Bucko's right ... the man knows his stuff. '69 was the year.
